Yachtmaster Refresher Course
To attain the RYA/DOT Yachtmaster Offshore or Coastal Skipper certificates candidates must pass a practical examination of their skippering ability. Both certificates are granted by the Royal Yachting Association in conjunction with the Department of transport and are amongst the worlds most respected yachting qualifications. To help budding yachtmasters and prepare for their exams. Bill, as an Yachtmaster examiner can come out on the boat and get them up to speed so that they can feel confident of passing.

Content
Boat handling, navigation, pilotage, man overboard recovery and overall yacht management skill. Advanced skippering techniques in preparation for the RYA/DoT exams.


Previous Experience Required
50 days aboard, 5 days as skipper 2500 miles logged, 5 passages of over 60 miles including 2 overnight and 2 as skipper, VHF/SRC Certificate and a valid First Aid certificate


Shore-based Courses

VHF Short Range GMDSS
This one day course teaches the basics of VHF/SRC radio operation, the correct frequencies(channels) to be used for distress, urgency and safety calls and all other procedures that the candidate requires to pass.
For holders of the VHF certificate only, we run a half day course using the GMDSS part only

Operation of VHF radio with continual assessment

Previous experience:
None but candidates must be 16 years or over.


One Day RYA Radar Course
The one day RYA radar course is held aboard a motor yacht and is designed to give the operator a better understanding of the radar set and its limitations both as a navigational tool and an anti-collision assistant.

Diesel Engine Course
The RYA diesel engine course is designed to teach yachtsmen to be more self sufficient. The one day course is very practical in nature and groups of no more than six people can get their hands dirty as they learn about the principles if diesel operation, the systems and parts of the engine, fault finding and rectification of common problems, routine maintenance and winter lay up procedures.

The operation, maintenance and basic repair of a marine engine.

Day Skipper Theory
The 5 day RYA Day Skipper theory course introduces the aspiring skipper to the wide range of subjects need to take a cruising yacht to sea. unlike the other theory-based on offer, chart work skills are taught from a very basic level up to a reasonable degree of competence.

Content:
Seamanship, Basic navigation, chart skills and pilotage. Safety procedures and Collision regulations.

Previous Experience Required: None, but some practical experience is desirable.

Coastal Skipper Theory
The RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster theory course is an advanced 6 day course for those wishing to skipper a yacht on longer coastal passages or students working towards taking the Coastal Skipper exam and assumes a working knowledge of chart work to day skipper level.
For holders of a MCA Boatmasters Licence wishing to move up to Coastal skipper we have a two day chart work only course to prepare candidates for the advanced Coastal Skipper Course

Content:
Advanced Coastal navigation, Pilotage, Meteorology and Collision Regulations.

Previous Experience Required: Knowledge of navigation and chart work to day skipper level and practical sailing experience.

Yachtmaster - Ocean Theory
This 6 day RYA Yachtmaster Ocean Theory Course covers all aspects Astro.Nav and the use of tables and world wide meteorology.

Content:
Theory of Celestial Navigation, practical use of a sextant.

Previous Experience Required: Knowledge of navigation to Coastal Skipper level and Offshore Yachtmaster Certificate.
